Application of Digital Technology in Education –

Advantages and Challenges

Introduction: Digital technology has transformed the way education is delivered, providing new
opportunities for learning, interaction, and access to information. Since 2015, CARNET has
launched the e-School project with the aim of complete computerization of school management

processes and teaching processes to create digitally mature schools for the 21 century.
Although digital technology offers many advantages, it is important to ensure that modern
education can also cope with its challenges.
Aim: The integration of technology into the educational process brings numerous advantages,
but also poses certain challenges, especially in specific areas such as education for the
profession of nurse/medical technician. The aim of the paper is to show the advantages of using
digital technology in teaching, but also the challenges with teachers encounter in applying them.
Results: The advantages of using digital technology are primarily reflected in the increased
availability of information and educational materials. Digital tools such as simulations, virtual
reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) enable interactive and hands-on learning in a safe and
controlled environment. Digital platforms enable learning at your own pace (Edutorij, IZZI, e-
Sfera) and communication via digital technology (e-mail, Teams, Merlin, social networks) is
faster and always available. Digital tools enable teachers to continuously monitor the progress
in the adoption of teaching content for each user, provide timely feedback and adjust teaching
methods. The challenges of digital technology are manifested through digital literacy as a
necessary skill, because otherwise the lack of it reduces and prevents the benefits of using
digital tools. The unavailability of technical equipment and high-speed Internet can lead to
unequal opportunities for accessing educational resources, and thus learning. The biggest
challenge in the online environment is keeping students motivated and engaged. The results of
the research conducted at the Vinogradska Nursing School in 2021. on the topic of student
satisfaction with distance learning showed that education in classroom is more boring than
distance learning. This shows that the implementation of digital technology is necessary in
modern education to follow the needs of its users.
Conclusion: The application of digital technology in education brings numerous advantages
such as increased availability of teaching content, interactive learning, flexibility, improved
communication, and monitoring of progress. However, there are also challenges related to the
digital literacy of stakeholders, technical equipment, quality of education, ethical issues, and
student motivation. By solving these challenges, digital technology can significantly improve
the educational process and prepare the student for future professional vocation and challenges.
Therefore, it is necessary to continuously develop and improve quality digital content and
teaching methods that are effective and adapted to the specific needs of education. One such
tool is the IZZI platform intended for the education of nurses and technicians in the field of
health care.
