their visions and goals and they do not allow for complexity in the workplace, they keep it
simple and to the point. There are some of the more noticeable characteristics when it
comes to the for-profit organisation. On the other end of the spectrum NPOs look for more
social returns on their investments, as they don’t require money for their services, there
payment is more focussed on the growth and development of the projects they are involved
with. Top notch NPOs have comprehensive, concise, and well thought out plans created
according to their SROI statements. They mainly revolve around creating and building
relationships with communities, people, and prospective investors to gain greater funding
for projects at hand. They take time and effort to invest in communities and learn what’s
important to them and create a better standard of living through these community projects.
Whether it be food or clothing drives. Another major focus is the ability to grow, by creating
a social impact, raising funds and awareness it allows people to be aware of the issues at
hand and allow them to give funds in order to help. (Author, 2017) In my opinion of the most
important aspects of a NPO is that it brings joy to people and changes the world.
There are many examples of NPOs and for-profit organizations all around the world, in this
essay we will be focussed on the local organizations in South Africa. The South African Youth
Development Organization was created to empower the youth for a better life. They do this
by helping develop skills and knowledge in different areas. One being sports. Sport
Implementation Foundation was created to teach, empower, and lift local communities,
sports clubs and everyday people and allow them to pursue their passions in sport. It aids by
providing educational support through sport and recreational activities. Growing sports
Foundation Trust is a non-profit, multi-cultural educational and sport-oriented organization
that promotes physical, social, and psychological development of children.(Author, n.d.)They
are located in rural areas throughout South Africa, it helps thousands of kids from different
walks of life to learn a sport they enjoy. Finally, Play Soccer Nonprofit International create an
environment where the focus is on health, physical and socioeconomic development in
children. It also creates a positive change in communities where the youth don’t fall into
gang wars and other illegal activities. Again, for profit organizations revolve around making
money but they do still their part in society whilst making a profit. Examples can be
Woolworths, they make huge sums of profit all around South Africa yet they have several
initiatives that change lives, such as Free Fruit for Kids, they help smaller businesses grow
and the Woolworths MySchool Charity. Pick n Pay is another well-known for-profit
organization and assists in the community as they are involved in The Feed the Nation
campaign as they provide food and basic hygiene essentials to communities. When looking
at the structural differences between profit and non-profit organizations there quite a few
differences as NPOs structure generally depends on their goals and the people involved in
the project. Normally the structure is divided into 3 different areas, governance, programs,
and administration. Governance of NPOs are controlled by board of directors spanning from
3 to 50. Board members are not paid, but can receive some compensation depending on the
project at hand and they are accountable for the policies and laws while organising
