Throughout the year, member Nancy Hall- Duncan led four Art Book Talk Tables featur- ing the books Old in Art School: A Memoir of Starting Over by Nell Painter; The Boston Raphael: A Mysterious Painting, an Embattled Museum in an Era of Change and a Daughter’s Search for the Truth by Belinda Rathbone; The Collector: The Story of Sergei Shchukin and His Lost Masterpieces by Natalya Semenova with André Delocque; and Avedon: Something Personal by Norma Stevens and Steven M.L. Aronson.
The Library Committee (Marion Banks Lawless, chair) purchased many new books in all catego- ries including books written by or about Lotos members and books about New York City, and New York writers from the Library of America series. They also purchased books on histo- ry, biographies, significant fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, theatre and music books. These new books were shelved in the Library in August. In addition, a shelf search was done that veri- ed the library books inventory with the Club’s Library database.
The Committee continued its series of Talk Tables honoring the Club’s distinguished member-au- thors. In September Joan Kretschmer, artistic director and founder of the Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York, discussed her book Yona: Discoveries, Doorways and Musical Superpower.
