The Literary Committee (John Sussek III, chair) honored David Remnick, editor of The New Yorker at a Literary Evening where he received the Award of Distinction. Under Remnick’s lead- ership, The New Yorker has become the country’s most honored magazine.
Throughout the course of the year, the Committee hosted three Literary Talk Tables. In the fall, Nancy Koehn spoke about her book Forged in Crisis: The Power of Courageous Leadership in Turbulent Times. Simon Van Booy gave a talk on memoir writing in the winter. In the spring, poet Grace Schulman spoke about her recent poetry and memoir, Strange Paradise: Portrait of a Marriage.
Salon 66 (Elyse Bloom Greenfield and John Sussek III, co-chairs), under the auspices of the Literary Committee, celebrated its twelfth anni- versary in 2018–19, with a series of evenings distinguished by intellectually stimulating con- versation and warm camaraderie. In November, Major Garrett, CBS chief White House corre- spondent, spoke about his book, Mr. Trump’s Wild Ride: The Thrills, Chills, Screams, and Occasional Blackouts of the First Year with America’s 45th President. He was interviewed by his publisher, Adam Bellow.
