In January, Frances Gilbert, associate publishing director of Random House/Doubleday, provid- ed a behind-the-scenes look at the events lead- ing to the publication of The Purloining of Prince Oleomargarine, a never-before-published, previ- ously un nished Mark Twain children’s story.
In April, Benjamin Taylor, novelist, Proust biog- rapher, editor of Saul Bellow’s letters and non- c- tion, and the person Philip Roth called his best friend, shared highlights of his literary career and his friendship with Roth.
In June, H. R. Stoneback, renowned Hemingway scholar, founder and past president of the Hemingway Society, and director of the week- long International Hemingway Conference in Paris, spoke about his virtually lifelong passion for Hemingway’s writing.

The Lotos History Committee (Christopher M. Laico, chair) through the ne work of its mem- bers, presented its third season of Talk Table o erings, which were all successful collaborative e orts with other Club committees. In the fall, along with the Art Committee, they welcomed back the author of the forthcoming updated edi- tion of The Vanderbilt Homes by Robert B. King, who gave an illustrated presentation about the New York City Vanderbilt town-houses that have been lost. He also donated to the archives some
