LEARNING ACTIVITIES 1
Number Patterns, Sequences and Series
A. Learning objectives
After learning activity 1, you are expected to be able to:
1. Understanding Number Patterns, Sequences and Series
2. Determine the pattern of a series of numbers,
3. Determine the nth term of a sequence based on the properties/patterns possessed,
4. Determine the first n terms of a sequence if the formula for the nth term of the sequence
is known,
5. Determine the nth term of a series based on the properties/patterns possessed,
6. Determine the first n terms of a series if the formula for the nth term of the series is
known.
B. Material Description
Children consider the following problem, suppose a
colony of bacteria will divide in half every five minutes. If
there were 90 bacteria at the start, how many bacteria were
there after half an hour? So to solve this problem we can
use the concept of sequences and series, you know. To find
the answer, see the discussion of the next material.
NUMBER PATTERN
1. Understanding Sequences and Number Patterns
A number sequence is a collection of Number patterns are certain rules that are
numbers that are arranged sequentially used in forming a number sequence.
with a certain pattern.
In a sequence of numbers there is what is called a sequence term which is usually denoted by
