At the 2024 Golf Business Canada Conference & Trade Show, a record number of delegates submitted ideas in advance for
the Great Canadian Idea Share that showcased their best proven money-saving and
revenue-generating ideas. The top 10 semi-finalists were chosen and they presented
their ideas live during the event with delegates voting for their favourite ideas.
It was a competitive process with many creative and impressive ideas from members
across the country. The top 5 finalist ideas will be featured in the Golf Business Canada
magazine. Compliments of Tee-On Software, each of the 5 finalists received a gift card
from Home Hardware, with the winner walking away with a cool $5,000 gift card!
2024 Finalist Staff Golf Scratch Card
Brian Schaal, Copper Point Golf Club, BC
In 2010, we started a Staff
Incentive Program (the Golf
Scratch Card Program) to keep
staff morale high and retain staff.
Each pay period, staff receive
one Golf Scratch Card (Fantasy
Golf Card) from the week of the
May long weekend until the
beginning of September.
The lowest score at the end
of the season (last pay period
in August) wins a trip for two,
to Toronto to watch 2 Blue Jays
Games (4 tickets total). The first
game is on the 1st base line and the
second game is on the 3rd base line.
One of our staff member’s sons is
a cameraman for the Blue Jays, so
the winner is often featured on the
jumbotron.
The Trip includes airfare and
accommodations for 2 nights and
$300 spending money. All we ask
in return is that the winner takes
pictures and creates a poster board
of their trip. We have these poster
boards pinned up in our hallway to
the offices.
The initial winning scores were
around 74, so added more incentive
to the program: if anyone scratched
72 or better, they would win a $200
gift card to Copper Point. Most
years, between 1 or 2 staff members
would scratch 72 or better; in 2022,
we had zero, in 2023, we had 25 staff
scratch 72 or better and in 2024 we
had 20 staff members scratch 72 or
better.
We also started a High Card
Program where staff can pay $5
(optional) and the highest score at
the end of the season wins that pot.
We use credit card points to
book airfare and accommodations,
so this program has a minimal cost
to the club, and the impact among
staff is priceless.
