Until you put a tea bag in hot water, you never know how strong the tea will be.

Life is kind of the same way. Tough situations and responsibilities often make people
very strong. The things we go through in life change our attitudes and intentions. With
those experiences, we grow wiser and start looking at life from different perspectives.
I am so grateful for my bumpy ride, because it helped me rebuild myself and become a
new person. Without it, I would have kept on thinking life is so perfect and cool all the
time. My son’s scary health experience taught me diverse lessons and brought many

changes to my life. I used to wonder why life threw rocks at you sometimes, but now
I have figured out how to use those same rocks to build a stronger foundation for my
              life.

My life was going smoothly with a lot of new changes when I hit my first bump. My
elder son was in 10 grade when he got a high fever that lasted for weeks. We thought it
                                    th
was the flu or some virus and that if he got rest then he would be OK, but it was not that
easy. We never knew that it was going to take us along a long bumpy road. He started
getting 106-degree fevers. Every couple of hours he would start shivering and after would
be soaked in sweat like he had a shower in bed. Even after lots of trips to emergency
rooms and Dallas Children’s Hospital, we didn’t get an answer for what was going on

with him. Every week we were running back and forth between home and hospitals.

Even after nine weeks of various medications and tests they found nothing. Every
day he was getting poked for blood tests and he was afraid every time a doctor or nurse
walked into the room. He desperately wanted to go home and return to school. He was
getting weak day by day, lost 20 pounds, and was not eating anything. As a mother I was
helpless, and my heart wept. I couldn’t see him suffering every day and I was praying to
