Saba Mount Scenery Trail
Just outside Windwardside - towards the capital, ‘The Bottom’ - you will find the
departure point for the Mount Scenery Trail. This trail is a must-do. 1,064 steps
and an hour and a half later, you will arrive at the summit of the mountain
that does justice to its name. Some days the summit of the mountain is
mysteriously veiled in mist, others, you will find it basking in glorious sunshine.
Next, you are rewarded with an enchanting view of the adjacent islands.
On the way to the summit, you will find palm trees, orchids, banana plants,
mahogany trees, oleander and hibiscus. Everything growing wild! As a human
being you become ever more insignificant whilst nature adopts majestic
forms. Particularly in the basin of the volcano, tropical cloud forest grows.
Saba’s national flower, ‘Black-eyed Susan’, is the only thing to remind you of
your location. The colorful bird species, the bashful tree frogs and the innocent
snakes are unperturbed by the passers-by. Don’t forget a warm sweater and a
raincoat on your way to the summit. There is a different climate when you are
877 meters up.
