it’s energizing both for us, and others around us. And
fourth, we keep getting better, never running out of the
possibilities for future improvement.”
What Are You Great At?
This idea of Unique Abilities® (or strengths) is very
important as you think about building your agency.
First, your strengths are going to form the basis of your
business. If you’re a fantastic salesperson, then more than
likely, you’re going to build a very strong sales culture.
On the other hand, if you’re a whiz at operations, you
have an opportunity to build a business that is simply
outstanding in terms of its processes. Either of these
strengths can be the foundation for a fast-growing,
highly profitable organization. Being really clear about
which of them is your strength is important as you build
your business plan because it will inform the best way
for you to go about your business.
As you think about your own strengths, another
thing to think about is, what do you love doing? Also,
what are the things that you really don’t like to do? For
example, many successful commercial lines salespeople
are fascinated by talking to business owners about how
they got started in their business. Their natural curiosity
and their inherent friendliness drive them as salespeople.
Where Do You Need Help?
Other successful agency owners are ingenious and cre-
ative marketers. They love writing sales copy and creative
