California Taking Action!
Bessie R. Hironimus, President
Greetings! Welcome to the first issue of the California Wom-
an of this term. We hope it finds you well and rested. We just cele-
brated the 92nd anniversary of BPW International. Many Federa-
tions and Affiliate Clubs celebrated the 26th of August dressed in
yellow and having the Candlelight Ceremony. Your president was a
guest of the Latin America Region representing the USA.
We started this new year with the celebration of BPW Berkeley's 100th anni-
versary. Their committee did a great job. Much preparation was made for this cel-
ebration which had a great participation of BPW members, community leaders and
government representatives. There were several awardees and speakers joining
them.
The National Biennial Conference was held in Sacramento at the Embassy
Suites. It was held in a hybrid mode with the theme ‘Together Again’! with the par-
ticipation of members and guests from several states Also present were several in-
ternational members joining us. Besides the International President Catherine
Bosshart, there were our Regional Coordinator Dawne Williams, Past International
Presidents Liz Benham and Yasmin Darwich, and Latin America Regional Coordinator
Diana Barragan. We also had with us, a group of Young BPW members who are Af-
ghan refugees and are very active with several projects to help other Afghan women
and girls. We are proud to have had such a large number of members from Califor-
nia participating. Marjory Hopper did a great job with the Memorial Service, and
Sher Sing provided live entertainment during the Gala Dinner.
There were several breakout sessions presenting informative and timely issues. The
election of officers resulted on the reelection of the President and the two Vice
Presidents, the election of the Young BPW Emily Vonvavleck from New York, the ap-
pointment of a Treasurer and of our own California member Sondra Nunez as the
Secretary. Past President Sandy Thompson will continue as the National Parliamen-
tarian. Also elected was Manjul Batra as the new Nominations Chair.
