Earth day 2025

Pledge to swap one more thing

for the sake of the planet
                                                                      during the coming year.

The ongoing challenge to contribute to respecting our planet continues with choosing
and updating individual pledges to reduce, reuse and recycle for the coming year.

BPW UK made this a prime commitment after Earth Days 2023 and 2024 and the FEC drew
on last year to include it the organisation of Conference 2024 in Bristol. I can share that I
was successful in travelling to the hotel and back by public transport and thank the peo-
ple of Bristol for making sure I got off the bus at the right stop in Filton!
Speakers on the panels highlighted steps being taken by their organisation, including Ali-

son Green, Head of Structures at Vertical Aerospace Ltd, whose current project is the de-
velopment of drones to become battery powered helicopters. Out of the current situa-
tion, and calls for change in interactions with nature, new solutions are being created.
The choice of hotel included its ability to reduce reuse and recycle the products it uses,
within the confines of food hygiene and health and safety.

BPW UK too, has included a new category in the annual candle lighting

ceremony and the image above shows Siiri Tivits – Puttonen, current
Chair of the Green and Sustainable IFBPW taskforce, from BPW Estonia,
lighting a candle to the Mother Earth, (Our President, Jo Kinsey is the
vice-chair of this taskforce with Siiri.
and masterminds the annual BPW Earth day with the help of other

        BPW European Presidents and members.

Throughout the past year Jo Kinsey has been working with Siiri to complete a resolution on
how to create and hold more sustainable events, under the expert guidance of PIP Sylvia
Perry. Siiri and Jo presented this at the recent European Presidents meeting in Rome and
were successful in securing its approval. This will now go forward to BPW International to
be voted on at their conference in November 2024 (https://www.bpw-international.org/

        congress2024/)

In April, one of a series of BPW Europe Green & Sustainable webinars was held on Event-
brite. Finnish researcher, Hilma Leppioja, presented her master’s thesis on the material,
economic and accounting flow footprint of the Flow Festival of 2022, a leading European
music and arts event which takes place each summer in a historic power plant area of

Finland’s capital Helsinki and 2024 is the 20th anniversary.
                                                                                                 …/...
