Autumn lunch at Carluccio’s

                                                    L_R: Nora Gleave,

                                                                     Helen Ashworth and

                                                                                           Ros Horsley

The day was decidedly autumnal in our area, but the welcome was as
warm as ever at Carluccio’s in Manchester. Past National President Helen Ash-
worth, Nora Gleave and myself caught up on the news over lunch and raised

a toast to absent friends, who had not been able to make it.

We have been in touch with Past National President Pat Lunn in Bakewell,
who is still working hard in spite of issues with her sight, and Rosemary Bull, who

lives at the other end of the area, near Derby, Lynn Everson is busy with her Eu-
ropean office in Metz, Northern France.

We look forward to being able to attend the BPW UK Conference in 2025

and in the meantime continue with work on environmental issues. As Christ-
mas approaches, we are looking for new ways to celebrate it more sustaina-
           bly.

The Which? consumer group is already reminding shoppers that Black Fri-
day happens on 25 November 2024, which coincides with the day the UN 16
           days of activism starts.

According to their research, just 2% of discounted Black Friday offers were at

their cheapest price on the day of the sales event last year.

Ele Clark, Which? retail editor, said it was important for consumers to do
their homework, shop around and avoid panic buying. Sound sustainable ad-
           vice.
