BPW UK INTER-REGIONAL
                                 PUBLIC SPEAKING CHAMPIONSHIP

The BPW UK Inter-Regional Public Speaking Champi-
onship, sponsored by Ulster Carpets, took place in the
Senate Room at Parliament Buildings, Stormont, Belfast
                        th
         on Friday 10 March 2023.

We were delighted to have so many BPW members,
parents, teachers and guests to support the five teams.
Unfortunately, due to the snowy weather Redmaids’ High
School Bristol was unable to join us.

Schools taking part were Belfast Model School for Girls, Cathedral School Llan-
daff, Howell’s School Llandaff, Lurgan College, and Wallace High School. The stand-
ard of the teams was extremely high and judges had a difficult job in selecting win-
         ners.

Catrin Sirett-Evans of Howell’s School was awarded the
new Ulster Carpets Youth Award for her chairing of the meet-
ing, while Joel Coupe from Wallace High School won the Pea-
cock Trophy for his sensitive handling of a difficult topic –
Mental health in young men. Best Expresser of Thanks was
Max Kamalarajah of Wallace High School, Best Speaker was
Luke Teggart from Lurgan College, and Best Chairman was
Bethany Blair also from Lurgan College.

The runner up team was Belfast Model School for Girls, and the overall winning
team awarded the Ulster Carpets glass plaque was Lurgan College.

We are delighted that we can continue to run the Public Speaking competitions
and hope that in the coming year more BPW areas will get involved in running re-
         gional heats across the UK.
