LIAMUIGA FERTILE LAND

                                  Executive Body of BPW Liamuiga

                                    th
On Saturday 15 April 2023 I attended the installation of the first Executive
Body of BPW Liamuiga which is the Young arm of BPW St. Kitts.

Lizca Bass is the new President. Her mother Lynn Bass is currently the Presi-
dent of BPW St. Kitts. Lizca would tell you that her involvement in BPW all started
with a projector. She had attended a meeting one night to assist with a projector
and stayed through the meeting. After hearing her speak someone commented that
she would make a good parliamentarian.

                            rd
By her 3 meeting, there were nominations for the BPW Liamuiga Executive
which she turned down three times and then was eventually outvoted and elected.
With this, BPW Liamuiga was officially formed in December 2022. The Club became
officially affiliated with BPW International in January 2023 at the North America and
the Caribbean Regional Conference. Our BPW UK President Jo Kinsey was present to
see this new Club affiliated by our International President Dr Catherine Bosshart.

Lizca and I are childhood friends. We lived across the street from each other,
attended the same dance class for young children (Children’s Dance Theatre), the
same high school and college. She is best friends with my cousin and although we
are not blood-related we have relatives in common. Lizca is like a sister to me.

During Women’s Month this year, the new Club ran a toiletry drive. They
amassed enough items to create 18 packages which were divided between women
in prison and women who had lost their jobs. The endeavour was made possible
through partnerships with various businesses and government ministries.

Ms Bass and First Vice President Giselle Crooke also recently attended the
Young Symposium at the Asia and Pacific Regional Conference in Taiwan. Here they
met with our YBPW UK member Otoha Hayashi-Hunt.

In November – Youth Month in St. Kitts-Nevis – the Club intends to host a night of
the arts. There are also plans to work with the Agriculture Department on its initia-
         tive to plant more trees.
