FOCUS ON NOVEMBER:
VOTING, BALLOT MEASURES AND CANDIDATES
“The vote is precious. It is the most powerful, non-violent tool we have in a
democratic society and we must use it.
John Lewis
Join us on Saturday, October 5, for the CFBPW Board Meeting’s special
programming devoted to becoming informed voters in the November election.
Training will include a presentation on the pro’s and con’s of the state ballot
measures, including what groups support and oppose them, as well as the financial
impacts. We’ll also learn how to “follow the money” as we find out who are the
major donors supporting and opposing these issues. Leading the discussion will be
our own CFBPW member, Sally McMahon, who is also a member of the League
of Women Voters.
“The Top Ten Things You Should Know About Voting”, a PowerPoint presentation
from the League, will be led by CFBPW Program Chair Rosemary Enzer. Even
the most informed and active members may find added information about the
voting process.
Highlighting the afternoon session is a presentation via Zoom by Mary Ann
Gorman of Sign 4 ERA. Mary Ann will update us on efforts to finally make the
Equal Rights Amendment a part of the US Constitution. She will share with us an
important action that we can take RIGHT NOW.
The two candidates for the United States Senate, Democratic Congressman Adam
Schiff, and Republican and former baseball star, Steve Garvey, were invited to join
us for lunch and conversations about their views on women’s issues and their
visions for the future. Congressman Schiff is unable to attend our meeting that
day; however, a member of his staff will bring us greetings from the Congressman
and has been invited to join us for lunch. Numerous attempts were made to contact
the Garvey campaign, with no response from the candidate or his staff.
Please make your plans now to attend either in person or via Zoom for this
important program. Remember—“Democracy is not a spectator sport.”
