“This is not the end but the beginning” was the quote I mentioned during
my presentation at the last BPW online congress when I was giving up my position
of young BPW International representative.
This was always in my mind for last 3 years and when BPW UK gave me the
honour with membership I had a hope that I will someday serve for BPW Interna-
tional again. “Girl with dreams become women of vision” and I had the vision of
uniting BPW, and my nomination theme was “United BPW”.
On my journey to St Kitts and Nevis for the BPW International congress, I
had little hope of winning as there were three other high-profile members running
against me. But I had a hope that members had seen me work as young interna-
tional representative, so maybe they will vote for me. During the congress there
were many lessons I learned and above all was to stay calm and focus and just en-
joy the sisterhood of BPW. Meeting old BPW sisters and making new sisters was the
best thing of this congress. Understood the power the members had, and to see
them practice their power on a major decision was something inspirational to watch.
There are many things I wished did not happen during General Assembly as it
was not a good sight for members who attended for the first time. Business and Pro-
fessional women members expectation was different but to see so many members
stand up for the right and address their opinions was just inspirational to watch. I
believe this is what democracy means in BPW after all. Everyone had a voice either
by voting or speaking up and this is what exactly empowerment means. The beauty
of BPW is to see so many powerful women on one floor with their passion to speed
up the process of gender quality in all levels. One thing I am confident is that BPW is
the right platform for young women to transfer themselves into a better version of
themselves to face the world with knowledge and virtue.
