Today on the 19th Amendment Centennial of Women’s Right to Vote, president Trump tweeted, “I have done more for WOMEN than just about any President in HISTORY! As we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of women’s voting rights, we should build a BEAUTIFUL STATUE in Washington D.C. to honor the many brave women who made this possible for our GREAT COUNTRY...”
A call to the White House seeking clarification of the president’s use of “for women” instead of “to women,” yielded the following response from press secretary Kayleigh McEnema:
“The President loves women. Just look at his life. A mother, two sisters, one niece, three wives, two daughters and four granddaughters — all girls or women. To celebrate this special day, he has invited everyone except his niece to the White House to pat them on the back for coming into his life. The President and the Third Lady are serving a special meal of KFC, Lay’s potato chips, Diet Coke and cherry-vanilla ice cream.”
In spite of McEnema’s braggadocio, the president has actually done more to women. For example:
• Twenty-seven women have accused him of sexual misconduct.
• He watered down the U.S. overtime pay policy, which had a severe
impact on single mothers and women of color.
• His paid family leave policy was mere lip service, requiring women to
borrow from their future benefits.
