Questions continue to abound about the president’s medical condition. White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and the president’s physician Dr. Sean Conley have had a major contretemps over the past 24 hours.
Dr. Conley held a news conference today in an effort to clarify some of his earlier statements. Conley admitted that he omitted mentioning the alarming drop in the president’s oxygen levels yesterday because he “didn’t want to steer the course of illness in another direction.” Asked what direction he wanted to steer it, Conley replied, “The last place we wanted to go was south, so I guess my answer is north. Yes, we wanted to steer it north, from the president’s chest up to his head where he could control it.”
On Saturday evening, Meadows reported that the president had a fever accompanied by a rapid drop in oxygen on Friday morning. Earlier on Saturday speaking to pool reporters, Meadows suggested that the president’s condition was more serious than Dr. Conley let on, which enraged Mr. Trump. The president was livid that Meadows had contradicted Conley’s upbeat message, which was apparently designed to make the president look tough and energetic. One can only conclude that Meadows, the president’s fourth chief of staff, is now damaged goods.
Later Sunday, Conley stressed that he and Meadows were working closely together, “side by side” and that his earlier statements had been misinterpreted. “What he (Meadows) meant 24 hours ago when
