Everyone has their own style of handwriting. but not everyone’s is legible.
                                                                                      It is advisable to use an ISO compliant lettering guide.  They are available    notation
                                                                                      in a number of sizes but for the purpose of A3 sketch books 5mm and
                                                                                      3.5mm are recommended.  Brands of lettering guide Stano-type and
                                                                                      Staedtler   Mars 572S.

                                                                                      Avoid overuse use of text on sketch sheets.  Remember a sketch can tell
                                                                                      more than a paragraph of text.  Use it when it is required but never to fill a
                                                                                      page or replace a sketch.  When adding notation begin to use the correct   notation
                                                                                      terminology (draft angles, planes, centre lines, cross section, etc.) in order
                                                                                      to develop an appropriate design vocabulary.



                                                                                      4.1 Fonts and Sizes
                                                          Notation                    Product designers use an upper case style of writing, mirroring the fonts

                                                                                      used in ISO lettering guides.  This style can take time to master but with
             Sketchwork and notation go hand in hand.  In design sketching the use of   practice it will become second nature.   The development of speed and
             notation is required either as a note to the sketcher for future reference or   accuracy will happen over time.  When choosing a font as a bench mark
             as a way of communicating to a third party.  Together with sketching it is   choose a sans serif font such as Arial, DMSans or Calibri.  Study the font,
             essential that writing is legible and does not detract from the sketchwork.    understand it and emulate it closely.
             There are standards that govern notation, most notably BS-8888 and
             ISO 3098 / 1B.  This is directly linked with technical drawings as an industry
             standard.
