In industry, a designer’s sketchwork is constantly being reviewed and so all
sketch work must be of a very high standard. The professionalism of the
work can determine a lot about the designer. Scruffy unkempt sketching
shows a lack of interest and respect for the individual and the profession. presentation
Take time to consider the presentation and remember the ultimate
sins. (p5)
5.1 Maintaining Sketchwork
presentation
A sketchbook is project focused so never mix sketchwork from different
projects. Where possible have a separate sketchpad for each project.
This is more applicable to the final years of the programme where overlap
of project is common.
Presentation of Sketching
There are three notable times where sketchwork will be presented.
1. Tutorials - one to one instruction & feedback
2. Critiques/Design Reviews - presentation feedback
3. Assessment - formal gradable work

Take ownership for the development of your sketching
Where possible leave sketchwork in the pad but If it needs to be removed
for presentations take care to store them afterwards in an appropriate
manner (A3 card portfolio or plan chest). Transporting sketches to and
from a place of work can make it difficult to maintain them. The card
portfolio may not be durable enough over a sustained period of time.
Only transport sketching when essential via a durable style of portfolio.
presentation When presenting concepts for critique or assessment it is better to
extract a sketch sheet from the pad instead of recreating it. All sketching
should be of a professional quality. Time spent reproducing work is time
lost for creativity and exploration.
