Kilkenny design workshop
In 1963 William H. Walsh founded the (KDW) which is the Kilkenny design workshop this was aso
l
funded by the government created to realise inspiration and to show the industry how design
can
influence the changes and led to economic success. The (KDW) it opened in 1969 officially and it
produced textiles, ceramics, metalwork and candles. Same changes were made in 1969 such as
3D
print, packaging products and exhibition designs, the designers and artists came from all over the
world this whore Henry Moore, Victor Papanek, David Queensbury and so on to see and
participate
in the work. There were also shops opened after Kilkenny got well known, in Dublin 1976, New York
1970s Chicago 1970s and London 1980s. a group of 5 Scandinavian designers( Kaj Frank, Ake
Huldt,
Erik Herlow, Gunnar Bullmann Petersen, and Eric Cristian Sorenses) got picked to put together
a report on Irish design known as the Scandinavia report.by 1984 they employed 128 staff 43
designers and 53 in retail, in 1988 operation of Kilkenny design workshop had changes the visual

culture of Ireland. Although the workshops closed in 1988, many of the designers that were

there originally stayed in Kilkenny and went on to establish their own studios in the area. Rudolf
Heltzel who originally came from Berlin to lead the metal workshop in Kilkenny Design Workshops is
