The ENABLE Ireland AND Irish Disability Federation Report (2016) states that
60% of users abandon their technology due to a lack of information,
assessment or training. The majority of these users are ages (65+).
The system encourages cases to be pathologized, and result in treatment
response to be clinically fragmented; while the individual patient self-view seeks
choice, control and holistic response in their approach to assistive technology.
An integrative approach in patient assessment, education and training
support would reduce the abandonment rate, improve the success of assistive
technologies by cultivating support communities, streamline information,
and enhance patient experience.
Implementation of data sharing network and information hubs for enhanced
acceptance of assistive technologies, informed by primary and secondary
design-led research and user-centered design.
Hypothesis:
H ypo t he s is:
It should be possible to improve how older people receive
information and education on assistive products through
primary and secondary design led research and a
person centred approach.
