Pi Day 2023 landed and it sure had us energised!
It is a truth universally acknowledged that the most important day in a maths calen- dar is 14th March or 3.14 – a Pi Day. The 2023 Pi Day was no different as the Maths Department launched a Pi themed exercise challenge for KS3 classes and dozens of students rushed to participate.
The brief was simply to use multiples of (3.14) min/miles/km and exercise. The maths teachers needed no excuse to take part and created a promotional video to inspire (check it out using the QR code!). The results were truly phenomenal from swimming, horse riding and enthusiastic dancing, to walking to trace the gigantic
Pi symbol in the streets of Prague. From skipping a rope 314 times, weight lifting to cycling kilometres. A number of students took the cookery books out and proceed- ed to .... you guessed it, bake pies! The highlight must have been Janek B. (Y9) who designed and 3D-printed a Pi-shaped cookie cutter and baked Pi cookies.
It was incredibly hard to pick a winner but in the end the creativity, dedication and sheer joy with which Izzy V. (Y8) recorded her 3.14 min long exercise routine was second to none. Congratulations!
