Meanwhile in the quiet place where mathematics
and art overlap, beautiful things were happening...
Krystof H. Y12 HL Mathematician and Artist has been busy decorating a wall of one of the Úvoz classrooms. Here’s what he has to say about the experience:
’As a student who has always been pas- sionate about the beauty of mathematics and the visual arts, I am proud to intro- duce my latest piece, a wall painting of the Fibonacci spiral that is now show- cased on the walls of D1. This work of art demonstrates the intricate beauty of this mathematical concept. It is based on the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two preceding ones (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, ...), and it is often associated with the golden ratio. Its presence in nature is a testament to the underlying order and symmetry that pervades the universe, and its elegance and beauty have captivated mathematicians, scientists, and artists
for centuries. I am inviting students and teachers alike to pay a visit to D1 (Úvoz) and explore the wonders of mathematics in a creative and engaging way. I hope it will capture the imagination and inspire a lifelong love of learning.’
Steam Day
On Wednesday 14th December our KS3 students took part in a STEAM-themed cross-curricular day ‘Forensic Frenzy’. Using the fictitious murder of Mr. Gibbins as an excuse, Y7–Y9 students attended Science, Computer Science, Art and Maths sessions to fully investigate the crime and apply their STEAM skills in a creative and unusual setting. From testing blood samples and fibres in science sessions to blood spatter analysis in mathematics, students were challenged, amazed and engaged in a day full of wonder and surprise. While most of the KS3 students were busy trying to work out who attacked Mr. Gibbins, a small group of reporters had their first taste of journalism creating the ‘Park Lane Gazette’.

What happened to
Mr Gibbins?
Mr Gibbins, who was heard whistling a Christmas tune, was found DEAD and robbed in the hall. The killer is still unknown but a school-wide investigation is taking place to find one killer out of the 6 suspects; Mr Emerich, Ms Palmer, Ms Neiffer, Mr Churchill and Mrs Gifford.
There are a few questions following this murder: 'Why would the killer kill Mr. Gibbins?', 'Who would it be?', 'Were the sweets the target or was Mr. Gibbins?'. Hundreds of students are thoroughly investigating this horrible death in a range of different activities. Can we find this sweet- hungry assassin and can will they strike again? Read more in the articles below!
