Student Council
As the Student Council is an essential part
of Park Lane’s community, the council began meeting from the beginning of this term to create a safe space for students to voice their concerns and suggestions for improvement. Here some of the members talk about their experiences relating to the contributions they have made within the Student Council:
The term of meetings with this year’s Student Council represent- atives got off to a great start. With the agenda set to improve
the well being of all Park Lane students, we have addressed the issues and challenges that our peers are facing. We acted upon their inquiries and had discussions with the pastoral team to resolve any issues raised. We also focused on organising events that would promote well being as well as raising awareness of certain causes. Currently we are in the process of preparing the best Winter themed Student Council events Park Lane has ever seen. I am proud to say that this year’s Student Council is full of responsible, innovative and resilient individuals that make sure the council works to its fullest ability and represent their year groups and their classmates passionately.
Nina Fořtíková, President of the Student Council
As a member of Student Council I had the opportunity to focus on planning the winter dress-up competition in which everyone dressed in clothes representing their Winter traditions. We proposed this idea because this would show the diverse culture of Park Lane students where we could find out information about as well as seeing how other people celebrate winter with their families.
Max Zajac, Student Council representative of Y7
During the term that I have spent on the Student Council, I be- came better at sharing my recommendations and perspective about what it is that could make our school a better place. It has been so much fun reasoning with my fellow Student Council friends about possible solutions. Some of the ideas I had were that events relating to Christmas in school, as well as solutions to students being able to cope with homework better. We also spoke about the playground equipment that would enable us to do more activities.
Isabela Volavá, Student Council representative of Y8
I, along with the rest of the student council members, had a lot of discussions regarding what items needed to be supplied in the new school campus. Since then, we have implemented sanitary products and trash bins in the bathrooms, as well as providing microwaves for the cafeteria.
Amalka Belcher Y13, Campus leader for Úvoz
With the decision to continue keeping the Student Council open to all pupils, we have a great turnout this year of many creative and resourceful students dedicated to improving our school.
We have held frequent meetings in which we discussed various issues ranging from helpful appliances around the new campus and the mental health of students to helping charities in our school and hosting events. It has been immensely encouraging to come up with solutions to these issues and actually see them implemented around the school. We have made great progress and I look forward to the upcoming changes we will make in the process of bettering the school environment.
