he’d turned on his phone. I nod and guide him to the kitchen. He rubs his hand
across the butcher block island.
“I’m in love.”
I laugh. “With Cassie. I know.”
He studies my face for a moment. I can’t read his expression, but I would say
“pensive” if I had to guess. “I can’t wait to meet our baby.” I tuck his lack of
response in my pocket for another day. “I was talking about your house though.”
I preen like a proud mommy. “Let me give you a tour. It has four bedrooms
and two and a half bathrooms. Everything is new.” During the tour, he pauses in
the guestroom closest to the master bedroom. He takes in the chocolate furniture.
He rubs his hand on the dresser and looks around to all the shades of blue working
together in a tranquil unisex theme.
“This is it.” He taps the dresser with conviction. “If I lived here, I would spend
most of my time in this room. It speaks to me.” He turns to me and winks. “If I
ever call and tell you to have my room ready, I want this one.”
There is that damn flutter again. I got the image of Henry sleeping in my house,
his well-toned body sprawled across my blue bed. Wearing nothing. What? If you
are going to daydream you should go for the glory. Cassie’s wail reminds me of his
dysfunctional relationship. Well, it is right now. They might be crazy in love in a
bit.
Henry sighs. “I don’t know why she feels the need to yell my name like that.”
He shakes his head. “I lied. I know why. She’s developed this sudden jealous streak.
We better head back to the kitchen before she swears we sneaked off for a quickie.”
