youth of the church in her programs to make sure that we developed a caring spirit for the sick. We would go to their homes to sing,
pray, and we took a donation on Youth Sundays. She was a real servant of Christ because she was always:
• Feeding the sick and needy
• Providing clothing to neighbors and others
• Allowing persons to come into our home to escape from stormy rains … regardless of race, creed, or color.
Our historic 1909 shotgun home, which still sits on the sidewalk to this day, was truly a friend to man as stated in the classic poem,
“The House by the Side of the Road.” This poem accurately reflected the life my grandmother led.
