sneLLing a HooK
An extremely secure knot for heavy hooks, used primarily
in saltwater fishing.
This knot ties a line to the shank of a hook with extreme
security. The word snelling arose in the deep-sea fishing
industry. It was used by long-liners, who anchor numer-
ous large hooks to a long line, before being adopted by Be sure to pull enough line

Knots You need: FisHing Knots
Thread the line through the eye of the hook Lay the standing part along the shank and wrap
and form a fairly large loop back toward the the working end around the line and shank
eye, as shown in the photograph. within the loop, moving toward the hook. Make
four or five wraps—or more—then tighten.
