The knothole comes to exemplify friendship. However, when

Nathan Radley learns what Boo has been doing, he cements

the knothole as a form of isolating himself from the outside

     world.

Tim Jhonson, a dog well known in Maycomb becomes rabid, and

a danger to the community. His disease is a symbol of racism in the town.

Just as Sheriff Tate refuses to serve justice for Tom Robinson before the

trial, he also refuses to shoot the dog and relies on Atticus to do the task

for him. The community expects Atticus to defend Tom Robinson, as

nobody else is up to fulfill the task. The writer has expressed simple
things like the knothole, mockingbird, rabid dog, etc. to have double

meanings and to represent a deeper meaning. The understanding and

knowledge of the reader should be vast to truly absorb the hidden

meaning from the book. The author has enriched the novel with

distinguished vocabulary throughout and I strongly believe students

above the age of thirteen should construct this story to gain a greater

understanding on the way the world works, equality, freedom, and

     behavior towards others.
