Lo Manthang
Lo Manthang is one of
the most beautiful places in
Nepal. It is located in upper
Mustang.
There are many beau-
tiful sights in Lo Manthang
due to the beautiful land-
forms. There are many
mountains, gorges, canyons,
valleys, hills, cliffs, etc.
There is a beautiful gorge
called Kali Gandaki, which
is the deepest gorge in the
world. Kali Gandaki`s name
changes into Mustang Khola
halfway as it cuts into Mus-
tang. It starts at the Chinese
border alongside the An-
napurna range, and even
reaches the Bay of Bengal all
the way in India.
The people of Mustang
are very well adapted. They
have beautiful stone houses
and many old temples/monaster-
ies. The paintings here are also
very beautiful . Most of them are
Buddhists. A lot of people here are
monks, farmers, or own small inns
and hotels. Interestingly the people
who are from Lo- Manthang don't
do the labor work instead they
hire people from other districts to
do their work. People in Mustang
usually wear old traditional Ti-
betan clothes. They grow and eat
potato, tsampa, dumplings, chick-
en stew, vegetables, dhindo etc.
They also built aqueducts for water,
since it rarely rains there they get
their water from the mountains.
They have also built dams in farm-
ing space, every farmer has an
assigned time to use the land and
opens the dam to water their crops,
then they close it until the next
farmer comes along.
