My
Ancestors
As a part of our Social Studies curriculum we were learning about our ancestors.
So we had to interview one of the members of our family about our ancestors. I inter-
viewed my grandfather. He is
from my mother’s side. I took his
interview to learn more about
the facts about our family. The
facts are as follows
We belong to the Brah-
man/Brahmin ethnic group. We
follow hinduism. Our mother
tongue is Nepali.
Our original settlement was
in Kavre. It is in the Bagma-
ti province. From there, we
migrated to Khimti Ramechhap,
3 generations ago. The reason
for migration is to get better education, more facilities and job opportunities. The climate
there is cool, warm and the soil is fertile enough to grow plants like corn, rice, millet
and potatoes. The dominant ethnicity is Tamang and Newar. We eat roti, dhindo, rice
etc. For the clothes, boys wear Daura Surwal and Tamang Lungi while the girls wear
Cholo and Ghaleck.
The houses are made out of brick, cement, mud and hay. We celebrate all the
usual festivals but our main festival is Akshaya Tritiya. It is celebrated by worshiping lord
Vishnu and eating barley powder and surbat. On that day, we wear jewelry like gold
chains, chura etc.
