the problems and suggestions of the school. With huge support, sufficient resources and rich
experience of our school’s students, we aim to utilise our strength and work on SDG 12 and
implement our strengths at school. By this, we would like to provide a concrete plan for our
school in achieving the SDG 12 through a three-dimensional approach, including school,
community and government level. We hope this can strike a balance in green school life and
achieving sustainable development in our school campus. We are looking forward to the
brilliant achievement of our school in the near future.
CHAPTER 2 BACKGROUND
2.1 The United Nations and UNESCO
The United Nations and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) have contributed a lot in promoting the concept of sustainable
development to the whole world. In 2015, where the concept of 17 sustainable
development goals was established. “A shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for
people and the planet, now and into the future” was the mission statement of the 17
SDGs. Some of the brief examples include Goal 1 “no poverty,” Goal 4 “quality
education,” etc. As a specialised agency of the United Nations, UNESCO aimed at
promoting world peace and security through international cooperation in education, arts,
sciences and culture. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals were intended to be

achieved in 2030. Both the United Nations and the United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization act as a leading role in the whole world. Globally,
the online publication SDG Tracker, launched in June 2018, presents available data
