Lipid Profile
➢ Physiology:
• Lipids are mainly present in the blood as triglycerides
(TGs) and cholesterol.
• lipids are insoluble in plasma and must be transported via
proteins called apolipoproteins.
Lipids + proteins = Lipoproteins.
Lipoproteins are classified according to the density (Relative
amounts of lipids and proteins).
The more lipid the less dense and vice versa.
Remember:
• Proteins are denser than lipids.
• If equal masses of protein
and lipids are present,
larger space/volume will
be needed.
2kg of lipids.
VS
2kg of proteins
