                              Collection and Handling of Urine Specimens



              Several collection methods and containers for urine specimens are available.
              Determining which ones should be used depends on the type of laboratory test


              ordered.


                                    Types of Urine Collection Methods:

                                              ❖ The  most  sent  specimen  to  the  laboratory  for

                                                  analysis because it is the easiest to obtain and can

                                              ❖ This  specimen  is  satisfactory  for  routine

                                                  urinalysis and microscopic analysis.

                                              ❖ Collected  when  the  patient  first  wakes  up  in

                                              ❖ The  specimen  of  choice  for  routine  urinalysis,
