Join the DDS Credit Card Collection Challenge
As the credit card has proven over and over
again to be the most secure form of
payment, we will be intensifying our efforts
to increase credit card usage in the Centers.
While we started with only 16% card usage
at the CSCs in 2013, we have made incredible
progress over the past few years! As of the
end of January 2017, the statewide average
for credit card usage was 53.32%! While this
is a remarkable improvement and we
commend your efforts, we are challenging
the competitive spirit of our managers to
increase usage to 75% by the end of this
calendar year. We’ll be tracking the weekly
percentages for each center as we work
towards this objective, and this healthy
competition will increase the safety and
efficiencies by:
Resulting in less cash to count at the
end of the day;
Reducing time needed in the center
after closing each day;
Leading to smaller cash deposits;
Improving overall security; and,
Reducing the Over/Short risk
associated with handling cash.
Please assist us in this project! Your input is very much needed and appreciated, and we challenge you to share
innovative ideas amongst yourselves to reach these lofty percentages. In the past we’ve:
Encouraged credit card usage by displaying accepted cards on the backs of monitors;
Used the MVN screens to inform customers that we accept credit cards payments;
Limited cash transactions to a $250 limit; and,
Prompted customers for credit card payments at the time payment is due.
A great suggestion during the Quarterly Meeting for Districts 2 and 5 was to create signage informing customers that
we do not charge a fee for credit card usage, as most tag offices do, since customers may be hesitant to use a card
out of concern that they’ll have to pay more. Give us your verbiage and we can create the signage for you.
The competition will begin in week 40 (March 27 – April 1), and we will begin recognizing each Center that reaches
the 75% threshold each week in the new monthly newsletter. A two-week lag exists between daily collections and
data input, but you will see immediate benefits as counting the cash and balancing at the end of each day becomes
a much smoother process. Each week begins anew, so don’t be discouraged if your team can’t make this happen
immediately. Try different things to let each customer know that credit cards are the preferred form of payment,
and help the agency succeed by pulling your weight so that we can accomplish this goal together!
