Meet Brett Young

Director of the Project Management Office (PMO)

Born in Ohio, raised in Florida, and settled in Georgia, this Dad of three young daughters loves
to fish and spend time with family. Brett Young opens up to the DDS Scoop!

Where did you work prior to coming to DDS? What brought you to DDS?
I was a Vessel Boarding Agent for Colonial Marine in Savannah. It was a lot of fun but very long
and unpredictable hours because I would have to work based on the tides. My family relocated
to Atlanta in 2001 and I applied for, and received, a position at the Public Service Commission
one month prior to the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety (DMVS) forming. My first day on
the job was also the first day DMVS opened here in Conyers.

What do you hope to leave as your legacy at DDS?
I hope to leave the agency better than I found it. I think everyone here has the ability to do that
in their own unique way. What is really rewarding is when you have worked really hard on a
project to improve a particular process and you know that you have directly impacted other
team members in a positive way and saved the State some money.

Tell me about your family? Kids?
Elizabeth and I have been married for 8 years next month (October). We met on a blind date in
high school when I was visiting my grandparents in Albany, GA one Christmas. We really didn’t
talk much until 8 years ago, when she moved to Atlanta from Memphis. We dated for 6 weeks
