fruit forest cont..
My Fruit Forest and garden will be laid out in 3 Zones.
Zone 3 are the large Fruit and Nut trees:
I will use Chestnut, Macadamia, Mango, Litchi and Fig, Mulberry. Apart from the Chestnut,
I grew all the trees myself from seed.
Zone 2 are the medium Trees and Shrubs:
Guava, Nectarine, Lemon, Moringa, Paw Paw, Avocado, Pomegranate, Bananas, Blueberry Bush.
Zone 1 Vegetables, Flowers and Herbs
I am planning to use Lemon grass, Granadilla, Pineapple, Gooseberry, Chillies, Roses,
Marigold, Wild Ginger, Lucerne, Fennel, Lavender, Mint, Oregano, Basil, and Rosemary. In
the root layer I am planning to use Garlic, Chives, Potato and Carrots.
We will need an estimated 50x50 metres (If you are planning on a project like this, read up
which tree needs how much space, some can be kept as bushes also to help with the
harvesting ie Moringa, Lemon, Oranges, Mango etc). We have now started to clear a part of
our Farm “ The Good Life” where I think there is enough sun and enough shade and good
water. The layout is also done and now we just need to dig holes, use natural feritlizer and
start planting. Even though the fruit trees will take some time to grow, I am excited to do
my part for our environment. To make the world a better place for our children. The next
and most important step is to find a way to keep my horses out. As much as I don’t want
them to be poisoned by blister beetles, I certainly don’t want them to eat my Fruit Forest.
If you have any ideas or questions about Permaculture or a Fruit Forest feel free to email
me or come and visit me at the Coffee Buzz in Kasane.
