Who: CFD Lab director, Prof.
Steven Frankel, completed his
bachelor’s degree in mechanical
and aeronautical engineering
at the State University of New
York at Buffalo in 1988. He went
on to earn a master’s degree in
mechanical and aeronautical
engineering at North Carolina
State University in 1990, worked
for two semesters at the NASA
Langley Research Center in
Hampton, Virginia, returning to
SUNY in Buffalo for his doctoral
research. Following his graduation
in 1993, he joined Purdue
University’s School of Mechanical
Engineering in West Lafayette,
Indiana, where he established a
lab dedicated to computational
fluid dynamics, which he headed
for the next 20 years. In 2012 he
made his first visit to Israel, and
a year later, immigrated with his
wife Kayla and their four children,
Eliana, Joshua, Moriah, and
Jeremy. They settled in Ramat
Beit Shemesh and Prof. Frankel
joined the Technion’s Faculty of
Mechanical Engineering—a new
leg in his journey. The CFD Lab
team includes a postdoctoral
fellow from India and a senior
researcher from France, and is
partnered by several commercial
companies from Spain, Ireland.
