PARKING ON THE ESTATE
During 2022 and early 2023, the office received a number of phone calls about vehicles parked on the estate causing an obstruction.
The principle cause of concern was vehicles parked opposite driveways or access roads preventing easy access for residents or delivery vehicles. Most of the vehicles concerned had valid estate parking permits on display. Whilst it is appreciated that some properties have limited or no parking space, those residents that do have frontages or drive space should make every effort to park their vehicles within their property boundaries.
If parking on the road is unavoidable, please park considerately making sure that your vehicle will not prevent another vehicle turning into or out of a drive or access road. Verges should never be parked on. Repeat offenders may have their parking permits cancelled.
We also had issues with trade vehicles involved in large construction work, but these are to be addressed by changes to the Development Licence parking permit requirements. See facing page for the revised Development License.
In some circumstances our parking enforcement company have been unable to issue penalty charge notices to vehicles not displaying a parking permit due to missing parking restriction signs. The current plastic signs are not very long-lived due to their fragility. During the year, new metal parking restriction signs will be appearing, fixed to lampposts or concreted in metal posts.
The following wording will be put on the AOSERA website under the parking section:
Please note: there is no automatic right to park on Estate roads. Resident’s vehicles should be parked within the boundary of their property where possible thereby avoiding unnecessary obstruction. Furthermore, the Estate owns the verges and they must not be parked upon. Large recreational vehicles, such as motor homes, camper vans and caravans, must not be parked on Estate roads or in the South Strand car park at any time.
A new parking policy to come into effect in 2024 is being developed by the Board to improve parking on the Estate. The new policy will include tighter controls on the issuing of residents, visitors and trades vehicles permits. This will be presented to residents at the 2023 AGM.
