The parts list consisted of the following:
3 spoke steering wheel from a 986/996 based chassis.
A complete steering shaft from a 1995- 1998 993 (I’ll get to this in a bit)
Steering column trim from a 1995- 1998 993 (to complete the updated look, though not necessary)
Airbag clockspring from a 993/996/986 etc. (do not spin the wheel on the spring, a new one will be taped in place that you will remove as you install the new wheel in place, but a used one needs to stay in the relative position it was removed from)
I sourced the steering wheel and air- bag clockspring from an old boxster that was converted to a race car. The steer- ing column and trim were sourced on ebay from LA dismantlers. The security screws come from Porsche.
The reason you need to convert to the 993 steering shaft is that the threads for the main nut that holds the steering wheel to the column are too short to fit the thicker boss of the updated wheels. This is the ONLY difference between the 964 and the 993 shafts. With the 964 shaft there is barely enough thread ex- posed to get the nut started, and certain- ly not enough to secure the wheel safely.
