Below is the 3 spoke wheel mounted on the 993 shaft and you can see there are plenty of threads to get the nut on properly.
On to the installation which, while fairly lengthy is pretty straight forward.
First, park the car so the steering wheel is pointed straight ahead. This will make it easy when you reassemble so your steering wheel isn’t off to one direction or the other. Then disconnect the battery and let the car sit for 30 min- utes. Next remove the factory airbag. You will need a long (2 inch or so) T30 torx bit to undo the two bolts holding on the airbag. The holes are found on the backside of the wheel at the 9 and 3 oclock positions. They are at a slight angle so it takes a little fiddling to get the bit inserted. You can see the bolts in the picture below. Once the bolts are loose, carefully pull out the airbag and pull off the red plug. Remove the center nut with a 24mm socket, and slide the wheel off. Place the airbag facing upwards in
a safe static free area. If you lay it face down and it does go off by some act of god, just keep in mind the airbag has the power to launch about 25-30 feet in the air which is why we place them face up.
Next disassemble the column trim, the airbag clock spring, and unplug and remove the turn signal assembly (8mm pinch bolt at the 4 o’clock position on the backside)
You can unplug the airbag clock spring. The orange connector goes to the airbag, and the black connector is for the horn for future reference. You will reuse these connections, plus add a simple ground as described later.
Next up I completely forgot to take pictures off but this process has been documented numerous times on the in- ternet if you google. Remove the entire lower dash pad. You must remove the stereo and the climate control unit to get to all the bolts. The climate control unit can be removed by inserting 4 3/16” riv- ets into the 4 holes and reaching under
