9FAVORITE CAR ADVENTURE?
The most unforgettable one was
a Porsche Treffen in Germany in 1977 that included a factory tour and a trip to the Weissach Porsche Development Center, which included a ride around the test
track with one of their drivers. But driving the rental car flat out on the Autobahn was unforgettable, too! My unresolved dream was to be able to order a new Porsche to my specs, pick it up at the factory in Zuffenhausen and drive it around Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Unfortunately, that never came to fruition, but I am more than pleased with the one I have.
10ANY FUN CARS GROWING UP?
You will probably laugh at this, but early on, Chevrolet Corvairs were my favorite. My first three cars were Corvairs: a Monza, a Spyder Turbo, and a Corsa Turbo. When I was in college, I attended an auto show in Nashville (TN) and the one new car that took my breath away was a new Polo Red 911S. That was the car
new coil packs and spark plugs and the usual Spring oil and transaxle fluid change. I already replaced
the brake rotors and pads. I was
an aircraft mechanic in my Army days, and I still do my own regular maintenance. When the clutch wears out, I will have it replaced professionally and have the coolant pipes pinned, even though I no longer track or autocross like I did during my misspent youth.
