In The Spotlight
Celebrating educators and schools throughout Northwest Arkansas
Hats off to all the teachers in the Elkins
School District for the work they are doing
in their PLCs. The Arkansas Division of Ele-
mentary and Secondary Education (DESE)
has recognized them for their progress
with a letter grade of ‘B’ for all four
schools. These teachers at Elkins Primary
School are rocking their literacy anchor
charts in this photograph!

Fayetteville High School’s Amy Matthews is co-author
of a chapter from NCTE’s A Symphony of Possibili-
ties: A Handbook for Arts Integration in Secondary
English Language Arts by K. Macro and M. Zoss enti-
tled "'I Am Arkansas': Social Activism Through Pro-
test Songwriting" with Dr. Chris Goering at the Univer-
sity of Arkansas. The chapter highlights student
choice in literacy instruction and the use of multiliter-
acies in the secondary English Language Arts class-
room. Congratulations!
The first media specialist forum was a success! NW Arkansas
is incredibly fortunate to have such a knowledgeable and crea-
tive group serving our high school students.
