Emollient, cold, or night cream
- It conserves the water of the horny layer against unfavourable environment.
The fatty film introduced by this cream occludes the water and hence called
occluding agent.
- They are used at night for nourishing the skin and as soothing agents for
chapped skin.
- These creams may be o/w or w/o, although w/o is recommended to induce
better emolliency.
o Such w/o creams should contain 45 - 80 % of oily materials.
o To ensure good spreadability, the melting of the oil-phase should not be
more than 37 °C.
Beeswax-borax cold cream
- It is self-emulsifying i.e., the emulgent is a product of reaction between borax
and the free fatty acids of oil and beeswax.
