The Doppler effect is an increase or decrease in the frequency of sound waves heard by the receiver when
the sound source moves closer or further away. An example of the Doppler effect can be seen in the image
below. When the sound source is silent, both receivers hear the same frequency. As the sound source
moves, one receiver hears a higher frequency than before and the other receiver hears a lower frequency.
