Currency - ATM - Funds Transfer Panamá uses the U.S. $, but has their own $1
Tipping - Budgeting coin (Balboa), and their own smaller coins.
The United States currency is interchangeable.
CASH vs. CREDIT CARD
I thought cash would be easiest to use, howev-
er, the majority of restaurants we ate at all are
geared to accept cards. I did tip in cash howev-
er to hopefully help the servers. A couple extra
dollars here goes a long way!
However, when you’re shopping the small shops
around Casco Viejo you should have cash ready
when possible. Occasionally when cards were
accepted, they charged a percentage fee. The
vendors also were happy to do more bartering
when you had cash in hand.
ATM
I used an ATM machine a few times during the trip.
I felt most comfortable next to the casino cage at
the Hilton and was charged a flat reasonably nor-
mal fee but I was limited to $250 each time.
MONEY TRANSFERRING
