Page 6 - A Guide to staying with your host family
P. 6
Try to remember what it is like to eat in the dining room at school and remember to use good manners. After the meal it is nice to offer to help clear up as you would at school.
We ask our hosts to have “screen free” meal times as you would expect at school.

CULTURAL DIFFERENCES
Your host will understand that this may be your first time in the UK and also your first time staying with a UK family. Undoubtedly there will be cultural differences between your family and the UK family. Your host will be aware of this so please be guided by them. Remember in England people often say “Please and Thank you” a lot – so try to remember this.
ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS
Once your host has shown you around their house they will give you some time to settle in and unpack. If your room has any particular features the host will explain these to you.
Meals – your host will offer three meals a day for you that will fit in with their normal family routine. It may be the case that you don’t always like what your host is serving but it is good to try everything. Let the host know what you like to eat and we will let them
them know before if you have any particular likes or dislikes. It may even be the case that they let you cook a meal for them. If you have any allergies College Guardians will have informed your host in advance.
Snacks – Please be guided by your host as to what snacks are available. But also be mindful that you should not be filling up on junk food. Please do not take food into your room unless you have permission from your host to do so.
If they do give you permission to take food or drinks into your room make sure your return the mugs / plates to the kitchen.
