No smoking or vaping
No drinking alcohol if you are aged under 16.
If you are aged over 16 you may only drink alcohol with prior written permission from your parents and then only when supervised by your host, for example a glass of wine with a seated meal. On no account should you drink spirits or fortified wine. Please ask your host to check with College Guardians if you are uncertain as to whether your parents have given permission for this or not.
No drugs
No tattoos or body piercing
No hair dying
No staying away overnight – unless this has been agreed in advance with College Guardians
You must not drive any car belonging to the host family
You should not operate garden machinery, e.g. lawnmowers, hedge trimmers etc.
No Candles / joss sticks etc allowed in your room
Try to keep your room tidy and make your bed in the morning.
If you would like to do some laundry (please ask the host when would be the best time to use the washing machine). Ask the host whether they would help you. Most hosts are happy to do your washing for you and will let you know when to leave it out. They may be happy for you to use the washing machine yourself but please check what they prefer.
Be considerate when using the bathroom and shower (in terms of timings)
Don’t leave lights on when leaving a room at night
Ask the host if they would be happy for you to make your own drinks/snacks in the kitchen
Be considerate of younger members of the family later in the evening and at night if watching TV, listening to music etc.
Depending on your age your host may give you a front door key. Please take good care of this and don’t forget to return it when you leave. Don’t give your key to anyone else. If you lose your key it may be necessary for your host to replace the whole lock (depending on the security risk) this can be expensive and would result in you covering the cost so please be careful.
