Conservation outreach center

A state of the art and India’s first conservation outreach center exclusively for © Pratik Desai
sloth bear has been developed at Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary. The outreach
center is open for all, villagers, tourists and researchers where sloth bear life
cycle, behavior, ecology and all information that people should know are
exhibited through audio-visuals. Within this center also, several activities and
fun learning spots are designed that will help to increase the tolerance of local
people to live with the sloth bear. Centre also provides information about how
sloth bears are important for other species and the local biodiversity. A separate
display about the biodiversity of Ratanmahal wildlife sanctuary is prepared to
appreciate local biodiversity. Apart from these, a sloth bear food calendar, roll
drum of Dos and Don’ts in sloth bear habitat and feedback kiosk is planned.

The conservation outreach center aimed for community awareness and

participation as a long-term solution to encourage human-sloth bear
coexistence and appreciation. We are also planning to initiate start-ups for the
local community for alternative livelihood and to sell locally made handicraft
and related stuff.
